A Tidewater classic, almost lost to time, now here & celebrated once again is 'An Extraordinary Dream'. The first of two singles created by Larry Gray & his group, 'The Soul Seekers'. Recorded in 1969 at Charlie McClendon studios, 5-piece Huntington High alumni consisted of members at the forefront of their musical landscape, backing national acts who came through town, led by Larry Gray who had returned from a five year stint at Stax Records in Memphis as Otis Reddings' saxophonist.
Their booking agent was Wilson Harrell of 'Check Productions', Virginia's most prolific music agent. Gray was also the mind behind the music for both releases by Small Society on Cadde, including the song 'Just Loving You', as comped by our good friends at 'Backatcha'. The musicians featured on 'An Extraordinary Dream' are:
Willie Kirby - Lead vocals
Larry Gray - Tenor Sax
McEvoy Robinson - Alto Sax
Alexander Williams - Bass
Jerry Williams - Guitar
Larry Harrell - Drums
As with a majority of local acts from that time, these records served as a calling card, pressed in small quantities, given out at shows to now become prized collectors items. Today, in collaboration with the only surviving member Larry Gray, Symphonical are proud to shine another light on this unique & timeless love song through a limited 7" release inc. promo card
